Major Midwest US Academic Medical Centre Adopts IB Clinic

Annual subscription adds to recurring revenue, with a full twelve month contribution in 2027

Imaging Biometrics Limited (LSE: IBAI) announces that its wholly owned US subsidiary, Imaging Biometrics LLC (“IB”), has entered into an annual subscription agreement with a major academic medical centre in the Midwest United States for IB Clinic, IB’s automated brain tumour imaging software.

Highlights

•   A leading academic medical centre in the Midwest United States has adopted IB Clinic for routine use in assessing patients with brain tumours and judging whether their treatment is working.

•   This adoption has enabled the centre to implement a scanning method that halves the quantity of contrast agent injected into each patient. IB’s software is the only product with published evidence supporting that method.

•   The agreement is further validation of IB Clinic, IB’s automated platform, as the means by which its technology can be taken up at scale in routine hospital practice.

Recurring revenue impact

The agreement is a renewable annual subscription on terms consistent with IB’s other client contracts, with revenue recognised across the term.

What the software does, and why the centre bought it

Patients with brain tumours undergo routine surveillance imaging to monitor treatment response. The difficulty facing clinicians is that treatment induced changes can appear like viable tumour on conventional scans. IB’s software uniquely measures blood flow within the diseased area and automatically outputs quantitative maps that help clinicians characterize tumour from treatment effect. These maps can then be compared directly against follow-up scans even when they are taken on different scanners in different hospitals.

Producing those measurements has traditionally required hospital staff to log in to a separate workstation, and perform manual post-processing steps. The manual process can cause delays, and different operators can generate  different output. IB Clinic removes those steps. The maps are produced automatically and delivered into existing clinical workflows, making the advanced results immediately available for interpretation, improving consistency between readers, and enabling reliable comparison of a patient’s scans over time.

Halving the contrast dose

Scans of this type require an injection of a contrast agent typically containing gadolinium when acquiring the data, and conventional practice is to give two doses to optimize image quality. Published, peer reviewed studies have shown this single dose method to be reliable when used with IB’s software, at both of the magnet strengths in common hospital use. In adopting IB Clinic, the centre has implemented this method, halving the quantity of contrast agent each patient receives. That is of benefit to patients who may be sensitive to gadolinium and itreduces the hospital’s spending on contrast agent.

Commentary

Trevor Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Imaging Biometrics Limited, said: “IB Clinic is the platform through which our technology reaches routine hospital practice at scale. Discussions continue with a number of medical centres interested in subscribing to our latest technology and we hope to update shareholders as and when they conclude.”
